Title: Gilded The Great Migration was a massive movement that allowed African Americans to thrive, and become the royalty they once were. This idea is what I wanted to highlight in my artwork, because African Americans were gilded at this time in various ways. Looking at the artwork, golden items can be seen worn by this woman. The gold is a symbol of royalty and wealth, however, even though most African Americans were poor at this time period, their spirits were high and they were rich in love and passion. The golden crown is also another symbol of royalty and high status. The crown gives its wearer, a voice of authority and confidence. The crown represents the pride and the amount of control African Americans had at this time. This artwork depicts the attitude and humility African Americans felt as the were released from the chains of the south. The Great Migration gave African American a new beginning, which translates to their success in today's society.
