My artwork exemplifies modern contributions to America that were made by African Americans. I chose to show these contributions as illustrations in a black woman’s hair. I chose to incorporate a black woman into the artwork because I feel like black women are the most oppressed group in America. Being a woman and black at the same time in America is the worst deck of cards to be dealt, yet despite this black women have contributed as much as black men to the culture of African Americans. My artwork is meant to represent the positive things that have come from the great migration. Things like the rap groups that came out of California and Chicago or the movies enjoyed today with black casts and directors. These are all positive impacts of the Great Migration.
