In the final, 60th panel of The Migration Series, Jacob Lawrence leaves us with the words “And the migrants kept coming.” Today, more than 70 years later, Lawrence’s epic narrative continues to have powerful reverberations.

My work represents the great migration by showing the modern day problem of police brutality and racial bias. I chose to highlight this issue because it has been circulated in our news for the last several years. As of late, it seems as if there is always a story on police brutality and the impact it has on the black community. It is apparent that this issue has instilled fear and division within our society. I chose to highlight this major issue by depicting the action with a minimalist approach. Straightforward and to the point.
