In my painting, I wanted to display how the Great Migration affected black unity and supported black communities. This migration had a large impact on black businesses and allowed African American entrepreneurs to develop new commercial opportunities in the North. My overall layout shows the barbershops. I do not believe that there is any other place of business that brings together black men more than a barbershop. A barbershop is a place where men can be themselves and say whatever they want without fear of reprisal. For many years, the barbershop has not only been a place to get your haircut, but a place for men to come together and bond. In my opinion, the barbershop is the number one most successful business due to the fact that that there are many benefits that come with the establishment of a barbershop. As for me, I love going to a barbershop; not only to get a fresh haircut, but just to be involved with the conversations that come with it. Whether it be about girls, politics, sports, life, etc., it is all just a good time and a strong visual of how far blacks have come as a community.
